Liebster Award

LiebsterThank you midnightexpressions for nominating me for the Liebster!  I am truly honored, and for some reason, a little bit hungry.  I feel like seafood, why is that?

The Liebster Award is all about promoting new Blogs, I love the premise!  Here we go.

The rules:

  1. Acknowledge the person who has nominated you for this award
  2. Answer the 11 questions that the blogger gives you
  3. Give 11 random facts about yourself
  4. Nominate other deserving bloggers
  5. let them know you’ve nominated them
  6. Give 11 questions for the nominees to answer

And my responses:

Name 1 of your pet peeves?

Political correctness gone awry.  I find myself thinking Archie Bunker was really onto something.

What country/landmark would you like to visit?

Ukraine.

Both my parents emigrated (separately) to Canada from Ukraine, met, married, and the rest is history.  They instilled culture and pride in our heritage growing up, and to this day, I am forever indebted.

Who is your favourite author?

Tough one, but I have to say Stephen King.

If you could be anyone in the world besides yourself, who would it be?

SpongeBob Squarepants.  I cannot imagine a better person.

If you could be an animal, what would you be and why?

A wolf.  Not sure why, although I’m relatively confident the wolf is my spiritual animal.

What was the last show you binge watched?

An Idiot Abroad – a hilarious documentary penned by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant.

Who has been the most influential person in your life?

My parents, equally.  Both have been gone for some time now, but a day does not go by where their spirit does not influence me.

Would rather go to the cinema or a theatre and why?

Cinema.  Before we were married I took my wife to a Broadway-like spectacular in Toronto.  I had to sit sideways in the seat for 2 hours, my 6 foot, 200 lb. frame didn’t quite fit.  I guess the historic theatre was built when Hobbits were more frequent visitors.

What’s your favourite part about being a blogger?

I can’t lie, ‘likes’ and ‘comments’ are wonderful, but I enjoy the fact that with each word written/published, I’ve cheated death, just a little bit.

If you had to listen to only one music genre for the rest of your life, which one would you choose?

Ukrainian Polka.

If you had to choose between living with the TV or music, which one would you choose?

Music.  TV can rot the mind in large doses, music heals the damage.

Eleven Random Facts About Me:

  1. I own two drum kits, three guitars and three piano/keyboards, and I am not good at any of them.
  2. I make a mean jerk chicken.
  3. My favorite sports team – the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, of the Canadian Football League.
  4. I proposed to my wife at the Union Oyster House in Boston, after we watched the Bruins (my team) defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-0 at the Fleet Center.
  5. I saw ‘Pulp Fiction’ in theaters 7 times.
  6. I worked on the assembly line at the Ford plant in Oakville Ontario for three summers during university.  I’ve owned Fords ever since.
  7. I once bought a picture frame just because the stock photo was of Phoebe Cates.  I still have it.
  8. I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up.
  9. I adore the movie ‘Joe Versus the Volcano’.
  10. I saw Andre the Giant wrestle Big John Stud at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto.
  11. I sold my first children’s story for $16 (cash) to a US publishing site, my wife framed the money.

And my nominees are:

adelearcher
gratitudeletters
shesavagrant
dressingegos
bonnywoodmanor
theredheadednerd

My 11 questions:

  1.  If you had to leave your country of residence, where would you go?
  2. Do you primarily write freely, then edit later, or edit each sentence compulsively as you go?
  3. How many selfies have you taken this month?
  4. Coke or Pepsi?
  5. Who are you most like and why; Harry Potter, Frodo, Hermione Granger, Princess Leia, or Clark Griswold?
  6. Favorite book/novel?
  7. What is your second biggest regret in life?
  8. Which character do you most identify with in the Breakfast Club – nerd, druggie, jock, princess, weirdo, or the principal?
  9. What is your favorite vacation destination?
  10. What ‘famous person’ do you admire most, and why?
  11. What is your single favorite ‘overindulgence meal’?

Thanks again for the honor!  Until next time,

  1. A great big congrats to you from one child to another. I too have no idea what I want to be when I grow up but actually I don’t want to grow up. It’s the childish part of me with great imagination that makes me write better, create poetry and rise to higher heights will cloud watching and blowing bubbles.

    1. Thanks Rasma! They say growing old is mandatory but growing up is not. Peter Pan philosophy that keeps life fun. Cheers for commenting – and I agree about the ‘edit’ button, my huge monkey fingers on a tiny keyboard have sent some odd replies, and that’s without auto-correct! Thanks again.

  2. I have a Ukrainian background too and I never get involved in political discussions other than with my family. Everything just becomes to heated throughout it. I know you didn’t nominate me but I could still answer those questions hahaha!

    1. Emily, check again, I did nominate you! Actually, choosing people to nominate is difficult, I know many have already received similar awards, others are not always interested, and I completely understand that. The nomination is completely voluntary, and no offence taken if anyone chooses not to participate. But I’d love to hear your answers. Nice also to know you have some Ukie blood in you! Cheers!

    1. Thank you Susan, ‘odd’ is a word I hear often. You have a great Blog BTW, I’m impressed, especially with your credentials – New Jersey reporter, author and puppeteer is an eclectic mix, I will be visiting again. Cheers!

  3. I’m touched by the amount of respect you have for your parents. That’s really sweet of you. Secondly, yes, definitely music heals the damage.
I enjoyed all of your answers & random facts 🙂

      1. Extras is really terrific. Everytime I see Sir Patrick Stew and Sir Ian I get a hearty chuckle. I would have liked to see Derek which is another limited series that Ricky did. Karl was cast in that as his best mate. While I am thinking of it, Ricky and Stephen also did a short series featuring Warwick Davis. Lots of laughs there.

    1. My pleasure. It’s completely voluntary. I’ve followed what others have done, and that’s posting it as one of your own Blog posts. For the image, you can probably right click mine and save it, or search Liebster on Google for images, there are many variations, you can pick whichever you like. As for answers, you can write what you want, where you want, there is no set structure. I just kind of winged mine. Let me know if you have any other questions.

      2. I first checked their website to see if they had a ‘contact’ tab, if they did, I sent them an email. The ones that didn’t have this, I opened their most recent post, and left the information in their ‘comment’ section. They may not get it right away, but they should eventually. Hope this helps.
