I’m Walking on Sunshine

sunshine-blogger-award

Cue Katrina and the Waves.

Thank you Dude the Cleaner for the magnificent honor of being nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award.  I had one empty spot in my trophy cabinet, and was hoping this day would come.  In all seriousness, Blogging Awards are a great way to promote one-another’s material, to acknowledge unique talent, and have some fun at the same time.  Please be sure to check out Dude the Cleaner’s wonderful website, a brilliant blog on movies from across the world;  Cinephile.

I realize many Bloggers don’t acknowledge such awards, even going so far as proclaiming their sites as ‘Award Free’, and that’s fine.  But I’m not one of them.  While I will politely decline any repeat nomination, I’m happy to have been given the opportunity to participate, and especially the added bonus of having a topic dropped into my lap.

I think I’ve pretty much reached my award quota at this point, it’s been a wonderful honor, thank you to all my previous nominators.

And for those who I nominate, please remember, participation is entirely optional.   I will not be offended  if you choose to ignore/decline the nomination, roll your eyes, or even add me to your Blocked Senders List (although that would be a bit harsh).

The rules are simple:

Acknowledge the person who nominated you.
Link to their site.
Answer the questions.
Create your own questions.
Nominate others and notify them of the nomination.

Here we go:

Which three country are you planning to visit?
Truthfully, none at this point.  I am a creature of habit, one who likes to frequent familiar places (I know, dull), but at some point I would like to visit my ancestral roots in Ukraine, revisit the UK, and possibly Narnia.

What is your dream job?
Full time fiction writer.

What is your favourite food?
Perohy, more commonly known as ‘perogies’, a traditional Ukrainian staple.  Also Chinese Food, all of it.

On vacation would you go at the beach or the mountains?
While I enjoy the beach, I feel more at home in the hills of Cape Breton Island.

What is you favourite actor / Actress?
I’ve always had trouble choosing between Al Pacino and Robert De Niro, so I’ll say – Robert Pacino.  For actress, the late Madeline Kahn.  Also, Kaley Cuoco.

What is your favourite film?
A tough one.  I’ll give you three.
Jurassic Park, Joe Versus the Volcano, Dumb and Dumber.

You are on a deserted island what can you do without?
My 400 DVD’s and Blu-ray discs, just put them all on a flash drive and I’m good.  Wait, I will still have electricity and a killer home theater right?

Which actress would you like to date?
1980’s Phoebe Cates.

What is your favourite drink while watching a movie?
Weekdays, Coke Zero.  Weekends, Rye and Coke Zero.

What group of Music do you Listen?
The gamut – rock and roll, classical, jazz, New Age, Ukrainian.

There you have it.  My nominations are below, some well deserving victims recipients, hopefully they won’t block me for saying so.   Please be sure to check out their Blogs.

And my questions:

  1. What’s your favourite film genre (drama, thriller, comedy, sci-fi, horror, adventure, documentary, etc.)?
  2. Favourite sport to watch in the Olympics?
  3. If you had to leave your country of residence, where would you move to?
  4. If you could meet any one person (currently alive), who would it be?
  5. What type of car would you drive, if money was no option?
  6. If you could travel back in time and leave your younger self a note, 10 words or less, what would it say?
  7. What one famous person (celebrity or otherwise) do you despise, and why?
  8. Who is your favourite Bond?
  9. What is your favourite day of the year?
  10. Did you ever dance like no one was watching?

Until next time,

    1. Cheers, thank you! Oh, and after I posted, I re-read my answers, and realized that I didn’t write my favourite Actress. I misread the question. I’ve since corrected that. Cheers my friend, thanks again for the nomination!

  2. Congrats on the awards – now tell me, do you make your own perohy? If so, would you share the recipe? Though it’s hard to believe, I’ve lived 59 years before tasting these lovely little goodies. I suspect, however, that the store-bought brand might not be as good.

    1. Thank you Maggie! My mother made the best (of course), and I tried hard to duplicate her recipe over the years. A lot has to do with the choice of filling (traditional is potatos/cheese mix, but sauerkraut filled are also fantastic). I will dig up my recipe and send it to you. Store bought are not always terrible, but if you have any Ukrainian (or Polish) churches/halls nearby, keep a lookout for their perogy sales, they will be stupendous, guaranteed.
Thanks for commenting, I’ll be in touch!

      1. Maggie, here is a link to a recipe pretty much identical to the one I use for the dough.
        http://www.foodnetwork.ca/shows/great-canadiancookbook/blog/perogie-recipe-36725/

The typical potato/cheese filling recipe is included, however my mother made it different. Her secret ingredient involved Cheez Whiz. You heard that right. Prepare the potatoes similarly (boil to soft), drain, salt and butter and to taste. Then add a 3-4 generous tablespoons of Cheeze Whiz (enough that the potatos take a slightly darker hue), mix well so there are no lumps, then let cool.
If you give the recipe a try, let me know how it works out. I make them in batches of 6 dozen or so, you can easily freeze them, they’re just as tasty weeks or months later. Good luck!

  3. Congrats on the nomination sir, and to be honest with you I think these nominations are a great way to spread the word of blogs that are not as well known by others. When people do this for me, I like to accept them because it shows I am able to connect with other writers. 🙂

  4. Congrats Mike! Soon you won’t have anymore space in the trophy cabinet. Lol. You’re an awesome writer and I see how people are always engaged in the things you write about. That takes skill. You deserve this and any other award coming your way 🙂

    1. How a-moo-sing! Yikes, that was a sad attempt on my part. But hey it’s Friday, you’re already into your evening, I’m killing off the last two hours at work before my weekend starts. Cheers, thanks for the clever quip, much appreciated!
