Deserted Island Flash Drive

island houseYour mission, should you choose to accept it;

The Background

Nuclear event, contagion, zombie apocalypse, alien invasion, rogue meteor, (insert your preference here: __________)

Your Destination

A tiny island, secluded, capable of sustaining life while you await the new world order.

The Situation

Just you, a laptop (capable of indefinite solar recharge), and a 32 gig USB flash drive.

The Parameters

The laptop’s hard drive is reserved for the millions of words you will write waiting out humanity’s rebuild. The flash drive will be populated with the following data:

5 Novels
5 Films
5 Television Shows/Series
5 Music Albums
.

A clichéd concept yes, not original, but worthy of consideration, given the proliferation of world conflict, natural disasters, and post-apocalyptic infatuation.

Those of you with backyard bunkers/fallout shelters can disregard, please read quietly at your desks.

My picks are below.

If your tastes gravitate towards the writings of Anton Chekhov, the music of Franz Schubert, films like Citizen Kane, and educational television programming, don’t judge me.

Novels

The Stand – Stephen King
Jurassic Park – Michael Crichton
No Great Mischief – Alistair MacLeod
Danny Champion of the World – Roald Dahl
On Writing – A Memoir of the Craft – Stephen King

Films

Dumb and Dumber
Tropic Thunder
Jurassic Park
Pulp Fiction
The Party

Television Shows

Lost
Walking Dead
Kitchen Nightmares
Spongebob Squarepants
The Office (original BBC series)

Albums

Songs You Know by Heart – Jimmy Buffett
Lamb Lies Down on Broadway – Genesis

    1. Awesome, you accepted the mission and delivered! Well done.
I have the hardcover of Duma Key, I think it’s the last King book I read. I really enjoyed that one.
You are an Ash-maniac, Bubba Ho-Tep, was a classic.
Paranormal Survivors just appeared on Canadian Netflix last week, I’m 3 episodes in. I just don’t like the guy in the button-down blue shirt (resident paranormal know-it-all) who comments and tries to explain things. he’s a bit useless).
      Scary Monsters, love Bowie.
Thanks for taking the time, your effort will not go unnoticed! Cheers!

      1. It was hard, Mike. Some of those paranormal investigators are so smug. TV shows were difficult because there are so many. I wanted to include Star Trek & Doctor Who. Movies were insane. Just 5, lol. As you so astutely pointed out, Mr. Campbell, my muse would be there in some way, shape or form. I wanted to add My Name is Bruce too, lol.

      1. Hey Mike – welcome! Though I think we may have to reconsider that “5 restriction” considering humanity’s stupendously effective ability to do itself in. And then there’s the 5000 years to reboot. Perhaps we are going to need at least 6 of everything. Just say’n.

    1. Wonderful selection! WD is a must! (I held off on Season 7 until they released the entire season on Netflix, I’m 3 episodes in now). Love some of your other picks like Oasis, The Ring (although Rings was a disappointment).
Thank you for playing, and for following. Looking forward to your future posts as well!
